Obituary of Leonard Mecco

Leonard Mecco age 98 of Lemont Furnace, PA passed away on Sunday February 10, 2019 in Mt. Macrina Manor.

Leonard was born on December 24,1920 the son of Vincent and Maria (Fasciella) Mecco.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 4 sisters Mary Anastasi, Kathryn Mingori, Josephine Soom, and Nellie Galie, 3 nephews Mark Soom, Joe Anastasi, and Anthony Anastasi, and a niece Angela (Soom) Feeney.

Leonard was enlisted in the US ARMY AIR CORP in 1943 and is a World War II veteran.

“Uncle” Leonard as he was known by family and friends was a life long member of St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church where he served for over 50 years in the Choir. He was a member of the Giuseppe Mazzini Lodge #231 of the Sons of Italy.

Uncle Leonard worked at Frazee Lumber in Hopwood and retired from Shumar Industries in Brownsville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Louise (Carbonara) Mecco, and several nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of his family.

Friends will be received in the Thomas M. Dolfi Funeral Home 136 N Gallatin Ave., on Wednesday February 13,2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday February 14,2019 until 9:15 AM at which time prayers of transfer will be held, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Rita Church Cemetery, Connellsville, PA where Military rites will be accorded.

A Parish wake service will be held on Wednesday February 13,2019 at 3:00 PM.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mt. Macrina  Manor and Amedysis Hospice for their compassion and care of Uncle Leonard.
